ELLY.A – Attraction | Music Video Production Breakdown

This is my very first music video I made for my wife`s first song — a personal experimental project born from many of my hobbies. We produced it entirely on our own, with minimal resources and a lot of improvisation. The inprovised studio we created is locaded in our house. I took on multiple roles simply to make it happen and enjoy the process and also to spare some $$$ :P

🔹 Concept:
The idea was to recreate a dream. In this dream, time has stopped — and the clocks are free to move both forward and backward.

🔹 Lighting:
After years of working with virtual lighting in architectural visualizations and game environments, I was surprised how intuitive it felt to apply the same principles using real lights on set.

🔹 Filming:
We shot everything in 6K at 60FPS to allow full freedom during editing and motion control in post. We used three background setups: white, black, and green screen — depending on the shot.

🔹 3D Modelling:
The clock model was inspired by a real one hanging in my wife’s dressing room at the theatre. It matched the surreal feeling I was looking for, so I recreated it in 3D and used it throughout the empty dream-like space. The full 3D environment was built in Blender, where I later composited the live-action footage.

🔹 Color Grading:
Blending the real footage with the stylized 3D world was a major challenge. Especially the dance scenes — the lighting in the rehearsal space wasn’t ideal for video and introduced a lot of flicker that we only noticed later.

As a first attempt, I think it turned out… decently. I’m fully aware it’s far from perfect — but it was a great learning experience, and above all, a lot of fun.
