Assassin`s Creed Shadows - Takatori Castle (1/2) - Citadel / Tenshu
As the Owner of Takatori Castle location , I was responsible for its complete creation, from the initial concept to the final polish, working in collaboration with Level Designer Dragomir Ivanov.
Takatori Castle, one of Japan’s top three largest mountain castles and part of the golden path in the game, is a monumental structure steeped in history. Originally surrounded by a 30-kilometer circumference, the challenge in recreating its huge area was to capture the scale and atmosphere in a much smaller game environment. To achieve this, I designed the location with a gradual progression of ruins: starting from scattered remnants at the lower levels, the sense of scale intensifies as players ascend toward the citadel.
The lower areas are overgrown and abandoned, evoking a sense of time, while the upper levels reveal increasingly preserved remains of the castle, culminating at the highest point—the citadel and its central tower, where something is hidden.
With over 20 terraced levels, the verticality of the location immerses players in the sheer magnitude of the structure.
